TOP 5 Captain Selection Options:

5. Sadio Mane

The explosive Sadio Mane finishes 5th on our Captain Selection Poll, getting a total of 4.20% of votes. Mane scored 1 goal for Liverpool the last gameweek and will be looking to add to his tally when Liverpool take on Crystal Palace at home. The winger has an impressive record against Palace, scoring 3 and assisting 2 in the 6 games he has played against them. Mane has been brought in by an addition 50k+ managers and is now currently owned by 24.2%.

4. Gabriel Jesus

Even though he failed to score, Jesus still managed to pick up more votes than his strike partner, Aguero. He had little to no impact on the game against Brighton, playing 77 minutes and just picking up the single point. However, he still ranks fourth in our captain selection poll for gameweek 2 with 5.88% of votes. Man City will host Everton, on Monday and Jesus will be looking to get off the mark. Managers are eagerly waiting to see how the young Brazilian will fare in his first complete season in England. Jesus sits in 11.4% of squads, making him our differential captain for gameweek 2.

3. Roberto Firmino

Scoring 1 and setting up another, Firmino was instrumental in Liverpool’s 3-3 draw away to Watford. Liverpool face Crystal Palace at home, this gameweek making him a very capable captain’s option. He picked up a total of 6.72% of votes in our captain selection poll for gameweek 2 this week and has a record of 2 goals in 4 games against the Eagles. Priced at £8.5m, Firmino is also a cheaper alternative to Kane, Lukaku, and Aguero.

2. Harry Kane

Even though Kane failed to hit the back of the net last gameweek, 7.56% of managers are willing to give him the armband. This is because Kane is up against a dejected Chelsea defense. Another important stat to note is that Kane has scored against Chelsea on 4 occasions in 8 games, he has also managed 2 assists. Many are against captaining the Spurs front-man due to the ‘Wembley Effect’, some are also of the opinion that he will not score in August! However, their preseason performance against Juventus should provide some reassurances, as well as the fact that Kane had the most number of shots from inside the opponent’s penalty area the last gameweek.

1. Romelu Lukaku

Once again, Romelu Lukaku leads our captain selection poll for gameweek 2 with a staggering 52.10% of votes. Lukaku scored a double on his Premier League debut for United last week and is set to take on Swansea at the Liberty Stadium this gameweek. His performance last gameweek has resulted in 150k managers bringing him in, which takes his ownership to 52.5%. This surge of transfers has also increased his value by £0.1. Lukaku doesn’t have the best of records against the Swans, playing them 11 times in all competitions and scoring just 3 goals. The Swans are geared up to give United a fight, Leon Britton sent a ‘warning’ to United earlier this week saying, “We have proved many times that we can give anyone a game at home and that’s what we’ll look to do this weekend.”
